PMDD or PME?

PMDD or PME? The difference decides the treatment, and most people are never told there is one.

PME (premenstrual exacerbation) is when a condition that is there all month, such as depression, anxiety, ADHD or bipolar disorder, gets worse before a period. About 60% of females with a depressive disorder have clinically significant premenstrual worsening of at least one symptom.

The difference matters because the treatment is different. With PMDD, symptoms clear after the period. With PME, they ease but do not go away.

Jellybean checks this for you once you have two cycles: see "Does it clear after your period?" in Trends and in your doctor report.
