How to get diagnosed
How to get a PMDD diagnosis: track two cycles, bring the data, and what to say in the appointment.
- Track daily for two cycles. Rate every day, good days included. The good days are what prove the pattern.
- Make your doctor report (More, Report for my doctor). It shows your ratings against your cycle on one page.
- Book the right appointment. A GP is a good start. A gynaecologist or psychiatrist who knows PMDD is better if you can reach one. Ask for a longer appointment if possible.
- Lead with the data. Use Prepare for my doctor in the helper to get your key points and questions ready.
- Expect other checks. Doctors should also rule out things like thyroid problems, and ask about all-month mood symptoms. That is good practice, not dismissal.
On average it takes 12 years and 6 providers to be diagnosed. Two cycles of daily ratings is the fastest way to shorten that.
