Talking to your doctor
What to say to a doctor about PMDD, including what to do if you are brushed off.
- Start with: "I think I may have PMDD. I have tracked daily for two cycles and brought the report."
- Say what it costs you: the days of work missed, the arguments, the safety thoughts if you have them. Impact is part of the diagnosis.
- Ask what the first-line options are for you, and what happens if the first one does not work.
- If you feel brushed off, say calmly: "Could we go through the ratings together?" or "Could you refer me to someone who treats PMDD?"
- Ask for it to be written in your notes, even if no decision is made today.
